Hi all, as we know partition of any hard drive has never very easy task. Most computer venders sell computers with large storage capacity but with a single partition. Then you need to have to change the hard drive size with divided in two or three partition, but resize the partition on a hard drive can be risky- you may mess or loss the storage data.
Don’t worry friends, here I am sharing a very useful tutorial to Partition a hard drive without formatting windows 7. This guide will work with recent operating systems like windows vista and also windows 7.
Partition a hard drive without formatting in windows 7
To start Partition a hard drive without formatting first of all Go to ‘Start’ and then find ‘Computer’. When you find computer once you right click on it. After right click a pop-up box will appear, then you should navigate to the option ‘Manage’
When you click on ‘manage’, a new window will appear with entitled ‘computer management’.
In this new windows click on ‘Storage’ and then go to ‘Disk Management’
After the completion of the second step, you will see all the drives present in your computer
Among these select the desired drive you want to partition. Then right click o the selected drive and navigate to the option ‘Shrink volume’.
A new window should open in which size of the drive before shrink will be mentioned and the available space to shrink will be mentioned, and in the next line you will be asked to enter the size of space you want to shrink and this will be the size of the new drive partition.
Note – Size of space you entered will be in MB and the space you enter must be within the limit to the available space displayed above.
After entering the sizes of disk click on ‘Shrink’ and wait for the process to complete. It’s taken some time depend upon the size of the disk and space to be shrink.
Once the process is completed a windows will appears showing unallocated space and the value is exactly the one you entered earlier. Select this unallocated space and on right clicking on it, a new popup menu option will appear. Click on the option ‘New Simple volume’
A new wizard will open up. Go through the wizard and fill in the values required. Usually the value needed to enter is the same one that you entered as the volume to be shrunk.
The drive newly created needs a letter to be assigned to it. Assign any letter of your choice as it does not make any difference.
A format page will appear and in the carefully notice that the file system selected is ‘NTFS’. After this is finished enter a name for your drive and then click on ‘Next’ and then click ‘finishe’.
You have done your drive partition.
Note – The above given guide is intended for windows 7 or windows vista users only. If anyone has windows XP of older version, then they need to use third party program like partition wizard to partition to shrink hard drive.
